Location: The village of Egton in the heart of the North York Moors has charming sandstone cottages and is famous for the annual Agricultural and Gooseberry shows that are held in August. The villages of Egton and Egton Bridge have four public houses between them, as well as a shop and garage. Egton Bridge is regarded as one of Yorkshire’s loveliest villages and is situated on the River Esk in a steep sided valley. The church of St Hedda is famous for its murals, and there are some beautiful walks to be found at Arnecliffe Woods and the Old Mill and stepping stones on the Esk are worth exploring. Whitby, with its many attractions is seven miles away and offers a variety of shops, restaurants and public houses.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline. A haven for walkers, the area also boasts great cycling, gliding, riding and fishing, whilst the North York Moors Railway is the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful scenery in a more relaxed setting. Visit the traditional market towns of Pickering or Thirsk, stop off at Castle Howard and Duncombe Park, two of Britain’s most historic stately homes. Discover the quaint fishing villages of Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes, with their winding cobbled streets and brightly coloured fishing boats. Finally, there’s the historic city of York, with its interactive Viking Centre, Roman walls, medieval streets, vibrant shops and gothic York Minster cathedral.
