Ampleforth, Helmsley, North York Moors
Details for Ford End Bed and Breakfast
Ford End Bed and Breakfast cottage provides completely self-contained village accommodation in the former stables, set back from our eighteenth century family home. We are beside the beck in the pretty village of Ampleforth, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, only four miles from Helmsley.
The historic village of Ampleforth is on the border of the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the North York Moors National Park.
We have two wonderful pubs in the village, both serving delicious food and within easy walking distance. Nearest is The White Horse, serving delicious, home-cooked and incredibly reasonable food and drink. Slightly further is the White Swan, well-known for its food, and so you are advised to book at weekends. There is also a cafe/pizza/fish and chip shop, and a village shop with Post Office.
The extremely comfortable, self-contained accommodation was completely refurbished in 2010. A private entrance opens into a hall, leading to a double bedroom with tv and breakfast area, and a shower room with underfloor heating.
The room is equipped with everything you need for your breakfast: cereals, bread/toast, jam, teas, fresh coffee, fresh fruit and a mini-fridge full of yoghurt, fruit juice, milk and butter. In addition, if you would like a traditional, locally-sourced Yorkshire cooked breakfast (including our own eggs), this can be brought to your room for an additional £5 per person.
The rooms cost £90 per night with reductions available for stays of two nights or more, and £80 for single occupancy.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but please could you mention this when you make your booking.

At Ford End Bed and Breakfast you are perfectly positioned to discover the beautiful countryside by foot, by bicycle or by car. There are footpaths right beside the house and we can lend you maps and guide you on where to go.
There is so much to discover here. We are a mile from the famous Ampleforth Abbey and College, with its now well-reputed tea room. The pretty market town of Helmsley is four miles away, and here you can visit Duncombe Park gardens, Helmsley Castle, walk along the Cleveland Way, or head out to the moors or take in the stunning Heritage Coast (Scarborough, Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay, to name a few of our favourite places). The beautiful, historic ruins of Byland Abbey and Rievaulx Abbey are only a few miles away (in fact you can walk to Byland Abbey). Only slightly further afield is the incredible Castle Howard.
There are local markets on Monday (Thirsk), Wednesday (Kirkbymoorside, Northallerton), Friday (Helmsley) and Saturday (Thirsk and Malton).
The historic city of York is a 20 mile drive or bus journey away.
