Here you will enjoy some of the most breathtaking views you have ever experienced with all the wildlife and birdlife that comes with it (provided you can fit everything in that is!). Apart from Saltburn a short drive south along the coastline takes you to Staithes, Runswick Bay, Sandsend and of course Whitby the fishing port where the famous explorer Captain James Cook began his seagoing career. Birdwatchers will want to drive north to visit the South Gare and Hartlepool (well known locations among the ‘twitching’ fraternity). A short drive inland from Saltburn will take you directly onto the North Yorkshire Moors National Park where you can visit Rosedale and Sleddale to witness the Iron Age hut circles settlement and the old Wheeldale Roman Road. Apart from the abundant grouse,curlew and snipes on the moors you may be lucky and catch site of a marsh harrier, a peregrine or even a buzzard. Drive on and you will come to Helmsley one of the most attractive villages in the country with its 12th Century Castle.

Along the road from here the Cistercian ruin of Rievaulx Abbey with its own tremendous views. The 17th Century Nunnington Hall is also nearby, one of the best maintained Manor Houses in the country. All these places are well worth a visit and will guarantee to make your holiday a success!
