If you just want to rest at home, the cottage has all the comfort and facilities that you need for complete tranquillity and relaxation. You might like to take a little time to explore the local shops, the antiques gallery, traditional pubs and the Kessen Bowl gift shop.
If you want nostalgia and maritime history, (and Staithes is THE place for this) just roam the quaint cobbled street and alleyways or pay a visit to the famous Captain Cook & Staithes Heritage Centre with its life-size street scene of Staithes life in 1745. . Find out about Staithes’ smuggling history or marvel at the ancient fishing “cobles” in the harbour. Once one of the major fishing ports of England, Staithes has a Mediterranean feel to it, with its higgledy piggledy white-washed cottages and views of red tiled roofs. You’ll find more local maritime history at nearby Whitby.
If you want activities for children, try rockpooling and crabbing in the pools around the sandy beaches. Or go fishing or take a boat trip in one of the colourful local fishing craft. As this is part of the “Dinosaur Coast” you may want to try a little fossil hunting. Even for beginners, fossils are easily found.
Or take a trip to nearby Whitby, Scarborough or Robin Hood’s Bay for a wealth of beautiful beaches and traditional seaside fun. You could also try the amazing North Yorkshire Moors Railway and take a ride on a real steam train through awe inspiring scenery.
If you enjoy walking, you can explore the Cleveland Way with its breathtaking coastal and moorland scenery. This is real walking country in the National Park, and among the miles of coastal and countryside walks, you’ll easily find great paths, great views, picturesque and interesting villages and traditional pubs where you can stop for a break.
If you’re tired of cooking, try one of the local pubs serving real ale and good quality, good value pub meals. There are also some great friendly cafes and bistros on the seafront and in the heart of the village.
