There are two lovely, country pubs serving excellent food, one around the corner and the other at Fadmoor, less than a mile away. Nearby Kirbymoorside offers all shopping requirements and a superb golf course open to visitors. The market town of Pickering, the terminus of the North Yorks Moors Steam Railway is about 6 miles. The steam trains travel through beautiful countryside to Goathland, (Aidensfield in Heartbeat) and on into Whitby. Gillamoor is a perfect base for exploring this beautiful area at any time of year, by foot, bicycle or car. The famous daffodils of Farndale are a “must” to see in the springtime. Don’t miss the daffodil walk along the river bank with tea and scones at the Daffy Café! Helmsley, Hutton le Hole, Riveaulx Abbey and Castle Howard are a short drive away with Scarborough and the quaint coastal villages of Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes a little further. There is excellent bird watching at the RSPB site on Bempton Cliffs. The walled city of York is easily accessible with all its numerous attractions. Accommodation: Comfortable, cosy lounge with wood floor, original beams and wood burning stove. Three steps lead up to the fully fitted dining kitchen with flagged floor and exposed stonework. There is an electric cooker, microwave and washing machine. Enclosed, lawned garden to the side, with patio furniture and a barbeque. A characterful, cottage staircase leads to two bedrooms, one double and one twin bedded. Bathroom with shower over bath. All bed linen and towels are provided.
