Museums
The North York Moors have been inhabited by many different people over thousands of years and the local museums contain artefacts from many different cultures and civilisations. The Romans had a strong presence and thorough archaeology has unearthed enough artefacts to open the Malton Museum, just south of the moors, which houses its impressive collection and has temporary exhibitions too. For those interested in more ancient history, the Rotunda Museum at Scarborough houses the find from a Mesolithic site (Star Car) and 'Gristhorpe Man', the remains of a Bronze Age warrior chieftain that were found hidden in a tree trunk in the 1800s.
