Details: Ampleforth is a pretty village located in the Ryedale District of North Yorkshire, situated on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. The village is small but does have several features including the Church of St Hilda, which dates back to Saxon times and was named after an English abbess who founded the Abbey at Whitby. Ampleforth Abbey is located about a mile from the village. There are a couple of pubs in the village one of which is called The White Horse, this pub gets its name from the White Chalk Horse which is carved into the hillside a few miles to the west of the village. It was carved by British solders during the reign of Queen Victoria.

There is accommodation available both in the village and the surrounding area to suit all pockets. There is also a shop in the village. It is a tranquil and ideal location for walking, taking in the wonderful views of the area and also using Ampleforth as a base to tour the nearby towns of Thirsk and York. For the more active Ampleforth Golf course is the perfect opportunity to have some exercise, it is a nine hole course with the 2nd nine being taken from different tee positions. The course has stunning views over the moor land and surrounding woodland.
