The Coast to Coast walk is a 190 mile journey from St. Bees on the west coast of England through some of the UK's most stunning countryside in three of England’s finest national parks; including the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors before ending on the Eastern Coast at Robin Hoods Bay. It is one of the most popular long distance walks in the country and should take between 11 to 15 days depending on your exact chosen route.
The Coast to Coast Walk was originally devised by Alfred Wainright (a well know author of mountain walking books on the Lake District) and hence is often reffered to as Wainrights Way or Wainrights Coast to Coast Walk.
Along the route you will pass through a variety of landscapes and stunning surroundings in each of the national parks. In the first section of the walk you will see stunning lakes and rugged mountains in the Lake District. You will pass throught tranquil Lakeland valleys such as Patterdale, Grasmere and Borrowdale, Englands most popular mountain Mount Helvellyn and Ullswater Lake.
The next section of the walk offers a more gentle terrain around Shap and Orton. Pass the market town of Kirky Stephen and enter the second national park, the Yorkshire Dales offers rolling hills and beautiful valleys.
