Details:

Commondale is located at the Western edge of the River Esk Valley which is in the Northern part of the North Yorkshire Moors. It was once a thriving industrial community, but is now a beautiful and peaceful village. Life in Commondale is centred around the village pub, and other amenities include a tea room and church.

It has easy accessibility with a station on the Whitby to Middlesborough line.

Commondale lies at the bottom of a valley surrounded by Commondale Moor, Wayworth Moor, Skelderskew Moor and Danby Low Moor.

There is a view point at Brown Hill which provides excellent views of the idyllic surroundings.

There are many paths, bridleways and cycle ways along the moors, which once were used for the disused quarries but are now perfect for leisure activities.

Commondales history can be linked to a small community of monks who once settled here. Which may explain the name of one track called “The Monks Causeway” which runs from Whitby Abbey to Guisborough Priory

A mystical stone circle is located close to Commondale and may be worth a visit, it can be found at OS coordinates NZ637108.
