Danby is located in the very heart of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. It is situated towards the head of the Esk Valley and is focused around a village green where Scotch Blackface sheep keep the grass trimmed all year round!

The village boasts the following amenities: village store, bakery and café, post office, church, public house, public phone box, village hall, public conveniences, tourist information centre and a station on the Middlesbrough to Whitby main line railway

The North Yorkshire Moors National Park visitor centre is located just outside Danby towards Lealholm. The centre is a source of good information such as walking routes and attractions, and is also packed with information about the history of the area. Local crafts and farming skills are often on display here too!

The Valley of Clitherbeck lies just to the North of the Moors' centre where coal mining ruled the local economy, until the competition from higher quality coal at Durham coal fields forced the works out of business.

Danby Beacon which dates back to the time of the Stone Age is an early warning which over looks the Esk Valley, making a superb viewing point.

Every year Danby has an annual agricultural show. One of the main attractions includes a falconry display. There is also a Livestock section with some very fine examples of cattle, sheep and goats on display. There is also a quaint farmer's market which always worth a visit and also a great showcase for local rural ways of life.
