Details: Easingwold is located at the southern end of the Hambleton region. It is tranquil market town with many interesting activities and attractions and is the start of James Herriot country.

The village is just 13 miles north of the historic City of York and hence was the first ‘staging post’ on journeys north. As a result it grew very rapidly and was very prosperous and at its peak boasted over 26 pubs and Inns! Originally the village was located in the centre of the Norman hunting forest known as Galtres, and although the forest has long since gone the very distinctive name is still used throughout Easingwold.

Market day in Easingwold is Friday, and an open air market is held in the square each week without fail. The square itself is off the main road and is bounded by beautiful Georgian buildings. The village is renowned for its excellent selection of antique and speciality shops, and there is plenty of free parking in the vicinity of the market and shops for use by visitors.

Adjacent to the market place is the Galtres Leisure Centre, which is open to locals and visitors to participate in activities such as badminton and tennis. There are many local walks in and around the town, and further information can be obtained from the local tourist information office

A designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty known as the Howardian Hills is located to the east of Easingwold. It is a wonderful area to explore with quaint villages such as Coxwold, the location of Shandy Hall, and Kilburn where the ‘mouseman' visitor centre is located. The world famous white Horse is also located near to Kilburn. This 314ft long and 228ft high land mark is carved out of the limestone hillside and is visible for miles.

Easingwold is well located for holidays combining the attractions of historic York and local countryside including the North Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire Dales national parks.
