Cleveland Hills Tourist Information

Details: Guisborough is a market town located on the Northern edge of the North York Moors National Park. Guisborough Forest, planted and maintained by the Forestry Commission lies on three sides and adds to the country side ambience. Guisborough has a long history through which there have been many changes of fortune; despite this the town does retain that ‘village’ feel. Originally officially part of North Yorkshire, Guisborough was re-designated from the North Yorkshire/Yorkshire and Humber region back in 1974 when Teesside was formed, then became Cleveland.

Guisborough is a bustling place and there is much to entertain visitors, including exploring the tranquil ambience and enjoying a relaxing shopping experience in this historic Market Town. The main street in Guisborough is known as Westgate, and an array of hidden treasures can be accessed from here, including an array of specialist’s shops. Chaloner mews is also worth a visit to see the beautiful flower beds and cobbled street.

Augustinian Priory, founded in 1119 by Robert de Brus II. dominates the skyline, and an outstanding example of Gothic architecture and a reminder of what was once a very wealthy medieval monastery can be seen in the priory church.

There is a speciality market on the 2nd Saturday of every month.
