Details: Helmsley is based in the picturesque Ryedale on the fringe of the North Yorkshire Moors. It is an unspoilt market town that was a centre for weaving in the 17th century. The loom operators were a wild bunch known for their notorious antics that were fuelled by alcohol and often ended up mass brawls.

The majority of visitors to Helmsley go there to enjoy the surroundings walks it is often a starting point to begin England’s longest footpath journey “The Cleveland Way”, which is over 100 miles long across the North York Moors national Park.

There are many ancient castles in the Helmsley area many of which were first built around the 12th century; these are very attractive to amateur historians who revel in their ruins and ancient history. Another attraction is Duncombe Park which consists of fine gardens and a country home which opened its doors to visitors in 1990. It has been a family home for nearly 3 centuries. The mansions main attraction includes a spectacular hallway and a stunning drawing room. The grounds and gardens have been restored and provide a haven for wildlife and nature.

The town, has plenty of traditional tea rooms and friendly country pubs, it maintains its old original charm and has a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Helmsley is also famous for it motor biking and, tens of motor bikers often start or end there trips out here.
