Malton Museum is home to a fascinating collection of Roman artefacts all of which were discovered locally. There is also a semi-permanent exhibition showcasing finds uncovered at Wharram Percy - the site of local medieval village.
The museum is easily located at the centre of the town, in an 18th Century Butter Market.
Malton Museum is Ryedale's major archaeological museum, located in the heart of Malton's market place and housed in an 18th Century butter market.
In addition to the renowned Roman collections the museum is also home to a social history collection relating to trade, local government, racing and other aspects of the town and surrounding area.
We are always pleased to welcome school groups to the museum by arrangement and can provide support for a visit in a number of ways. There are various activities that engage visiting children with the historical learning experience and support available for teachers arranging a visit.
Opening Times
• From mid March to the end of October the museum is open from Monday to Saturday between 10:00am and 4:00pm.
• From November to mid March the museum is open from Monday to Saturday between 10:30am and 3:00pm
• The museum is closed at Christmas - ring for exact dates.
Group Bookings
Daytime and evening visits can be arranged for larger groups.
