Ryedale Tourist Information
A Selection of Malton & Norton Accommodation

Details: Malton is located on the fringe of the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park and has been acknowledged as the centre of the Rydale region from the Roman era. Just to the north is the site of the first settlement of ‘Old Malton’, and here stands the stunning St Mary’s Gilbertine Priory. The formation of a second settlement was due to the building of a Norman castle by the river Derwent, and it this settlement that has grown in today’s Malton. Directly across the river is a second village ‘Norton’.

Ryedale’s internationally recognised archaeological museum is based at Malton. Visitors can view and explore the extremely well displayed collections, including items gathered locally during digs.

The Garden at Scampston Hall was newly planted in the 4˝ acre 18th Century walled garden and opened to the public for the first time in 2004.

Norton is also well known as a specialist centre for the training of racehorses, and the valuable thoroughbreds can often be seen around the region and particularly at the gallops at Langton Wold.

Malton & Norton boast a fine array of shops, pubs and restaurants, together with a selection of accommodation to suit all tastes.
