Details: Osmotherley is located in the North York Moors National Park and is a truely charming picturesque village unchanged by the sands of time. Anyone wishing to explore the Moors and surrounding areas should consider staying in Osmotherley as it is ideally located with good access to both the National Park and surrounding areas via the A19. There are 2 pubs, a bistro and traditional fish and chip shop, so there is plenty of choice for evening meals. The village also boasts a walking shop, a tea shop, post office and newsagents. Nearby attractions include Mount Grace Priory and Captain Cook’s Schoolroom Museum in Great Ayton.

The village has a long history associated to farming and the market place until quite recently was used for cattle and sheep sales, there is still plenty of farming on the surrounding moors and pasture land.

Smugglers were also known to frequent the village, as they crossed the moors with contraband from the coast.

Today's visitors are much more celebrated, as Osmotherley is now a tourist hot spot especially with walkers and cyclists. Osmotherley is the starting point of the Lyke Wake Walk, covering 42 miles across moors to Ravenscar.

Walks passing through or near the village include The Cleveland Way which is a designated National Trail and Wainrights Coast To coast Walk. The Sustrans White Rose cycle route also passes through.

The Osmotherley Society as also devised 10 circular routes starting and finishing in Osmotherley, leaflets can be picked up in the local post office. Many walkers travelling along the coast to coast route make the short diversion to Osmotherley for an overnight stay, attracted by the village’s picturesque nature with beautiful views and pretty stone cottages, not to mention the 3 pubs!

There are a number of historical sites in Osmotherley. St Peter's church is built on an early Saxon site, with some parts of the building dating back to the Norman period. John Wesley preached from the barter table which is in the centre of the village, In Chapel Yard the world's oldest Methodist Chapel can be found, which was built in 1754.
