Details:
Pickering is located on the southern fringe of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and is a busy little town with plenty of attractions for tourists to visit.

One great feature of Pickering is that it is located on The North Yorkshire Moors National Park Steam Railway. It is actually the most southern station and hence makes a great place for travellers on the railway to make it the starting and finishing point of the journey.

There is a well preserved castle in Pickering owned by English Heritage. In days gone by numerous Kings of England made the castle a base to go hunting in the local extensive forests. In other word they used it as their ‘holiday home’, which demonstrates the influence of the Royals in the middle ages. The castle actually fell into ruin due to an accident of history. Due to a pressing need to defend nearby Scarborough, Royalists removed lead from the roof as a source of material for manufacturing gunshot, and local landowners then followed the lead by stripping out stone for other building projects.

Pickering is also an ideal place to explore moor land, forests, history, and the Yorkshire Coast. Or if you prefer more excitement you can go ‘off road’ at one of the largest off road driving centre in the UK. ‘Flamingo Land’ Theme Park and Zoo is also only a short drive way. There is plenty to do and see for all the family.

Pickering also boasts an excellent range of eateries, including cafes, pubs and restaurants. There is a variety of shops including many selling local goods and produce, self catering provisions, plus art galleries, gift shops and craft centres.

So, if you are looking for a holiday destination, a short break or simply somewhere for an interesting and rewarding day out, surrounded by spectacular and beautiful country side and tradition, Pickering should be high on your list of venues.
