Details:
A small and beautiful fishing village clinging to the cliffs with steep hills either side and a wide sandy beach make Runswick an extremely pleasant place to visit.

Runswick is located on the east coast within the North Yorkshire Moors. There is a car park at the bottom of the hill for those who do not want to walk, but the more energetic there is a car park at the top involving a steep walk to the bay!
Amenities available include: a couple of pubs, public car parks, public phone, hotel, shops, public convenience, café and other eating places.

The wide sandy beach once used for commercial fisherman but now popular for leisure fishing – especially at night (not for the faint hearted!!). Steep imposing Cliffs on either side make for great scenery which really is a must see place for any visiting the North Yorkshire.
Buildings of interest at Runswick include the Institute (a local meeting place that was opened in 1870), The Loft, the tiny Methodist Chapel, Old Lifeboat House and the former Coastguard house which has a lovely thatched roof.

The history of Runswick bay relates back to fishing as do most of the coastal villagers in the area. The seep cliffs and large bay created a natural shelter for boats to be pulled in safely after a fishing trip. However there are few fulltime fishermen left here, but there are still plenty of fishing related links.
