The wonderful North Yorkshire coast is the perfect venue for messing about in boats. The Scarborough and District Canoe Club have kayaks and canoes available, both with expert instruction and safety guidance.

The Scarborough and District Canoe Club is a kayaking and canoe club based in the Yorkshire coastal town of Scarborough.

Scarborough has two main bays, North Bay and South Bay. Depending on conditions either bay may be used for play boating, surf kayaking or sea kayaking. However both bays can also be extremely dangerous. Exercise caution at all times.

Both bays have a range of facilities including public toilets, and cafes. South Bay (which is far more developed) also has a variety of shops, amusement arcades and restaurants. It also houses the local life boat.

The third bay which is a short drive to the south of Scarborough is Cayton Bay. This is probably the least developed of the beaches but requires a strenuous walk down/up from car park to beach.

As we are based in Scarborough our main resource is the sea. We surf mainly in South Bay as it is the safer of the two bays as more shelter is provided by the harbour wall. Cayton Bay, Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Filey are other spots along the Yorkshire Coast we use for surfing. When the water is calmer we paddle around Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs where there are caves to explore and, in the spring, teeming flocks of nesting seabirds to be seen. Filey Brigg is another exciting location in the right conditions.

Regular day trips to rivers such as the Ure, Wharfe, Derwent, Esk and Tees cater for the novice to advanced paddlers. In addition, we have weekends away to Wales and the...
