The Stephen Joseph Theatre was founded by Stephen Joseph and was the first theatre in the round in Britain.

The Theatre:

The Stephen Joseph Theatre is a regional producing theatre based in Scarborough which is now under new artistic leadership but still home to the work of Sir Alan Ayckbourn.

A 1930s Grade II listed building in the centre of Scarborough, opposite the railway station, the Stephen Joseph Theatre prides itself in providing a friendly, professional tailor-made service to put your event centre stage.

The theatre has hosted over 800 different events for a wide variety of local and national organisations.

The theatre specialises in producing new writing but also presents touring work and delivers an education and rural outreach programme. Main stage work is presented in the round and the company has a strong national and international reputation through toured and reproduced work.

The Stephen Joseph Theatre is fully accessible, with a passenger lift to all floors.

There are designated wheelchair spaces in both auditoria and disabled toilets on the ground floor and second floor.

The Round and The McCarthy have an infra red system and an induction loop and The Boden Room also has a loop system.
