Runswick Bay
Runswick Bay is a picturesque seaside village situated only 5 miles from Whitby on the Yorkshire coast. The village has a rich history and was once a haven for smugglers, the sheltered harbour has provided safe anchorage for fishing boats for over 600 years. After the fishing industry began to decline the village became ever more popular with holiday makers and is now one of the prime tourist locations along the coastline. There are basic amenities for visitors with a campsite, pub, tearoom and hotel all contained in the centre of the village.

From the cliff top above the village there are fantastic views over the red tiled roofs of the whitewashed cottages and across the bay to the alum quarries of Kettleness. Also popular amongst tourists are the dramatic cliffs, punctured by tiny caves or 'hob holes' which, according to legend were occupied by hob goblins and to this day are perfect for fossil hunting.
The village has good transport links, being close to the A174. Nearby there are a host of larger coastal resorts to visit or inland there is the stunning scenery which makes up the North York Moors With so much to see and do Runswick bay is a perfect base from which to explore the rest of North Yorkshire.
