Vale of York

there is the pretty town of Thirsk, with its historic racecourse and traditional town square, complete with clock tower. The town is situated at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales and is most well known as the home of James Herriot, the famous author and vet. The stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park provides a picturesque backdrop to the town and is brimming with natural wildlife.

Sutton Bank in the Hambledon Hills offers magnificent views across the vale and makes a very pleasant walking location. Looking up to the skies visitors will often see gliders soaring over the famous white chalk horse which adorns the hillside above and looks down on Lake Gormire and the wonderfully tranquil countryside beyond.

The magnificent River Ouse flows through the Vale of York and provides excellent boating and fishing. The area around Naburn Lock is particularly good during the winter months, where anglers can be certain of a good catch as the waters are brimming with a mix of perch, bream and roach.

Easingwold lies within 10 miles of York, and is a stunning, peaceful market town. The quaint market square with its frame of beautiful Georgian buildings is surrounded by delightful country lanes and a network of tranquil walks. The North York Moors and Yorkshire Heritage Coast are both within easy reach.
