Fishing has become a favourite outdoor pursuit, and with endless rivers, lakes and vast coastline of the North York Moors it is an ideal place to spend some relaxing time. There are plenty of tackle shops throughout the area and bait is readily available for all types of fishing.

The North York Moors and North Yorkshire makes a fantastic venue for a fishing break and you will truly be spoilt for choice. There is course, game, fly and sea fishing available, including a salmon and seatrout river.

The North Yorkshire Moors and surrounding region really can be classed as a Mecca for visiting fishermen. The whole range of fishing is catered for including stillwater, river, coarse fishing, fly fishing, sea trout, salmon, beach fishing and deep sea fishing. There are numerous rivers in the area, all available to the visiting angler on reasonably priced day tickets. These include the:

• Tees
• Esk
• Leven
• Derwent
• Rye
• Nidd

There are all also lots of great places to find stillwaters for both the course and fly angler, all available on a day ticket and some with weekly passes available, far too many to name individually here.

Deep sea fishing can be booked from Whitby and Bridlington, and for the shore angler there is a vast array of marks available, generally best fished at night.

Tackle and bait outlets are also not in short supply. Nearly every major town has a least one, including: Northallerton, Whitby, Filey, Bridlington, Saltburn, Middlesbrough and Pickering.
